Tomorrow is T-Day (Thanksgiving Day)....It's a really big day here in the U.S. as that's when everyone gets to sit down to a huge meal, stuff themselves, and not feel bad about it. Actually, it's a day of thanks and I know I have so much to be thankful for.
I'm not real sure about this day at all.....You make at least three trips to the grocery store buying everything you can get your hands on because you don't know if you'll need it or not, clean house for several days when you know it's just going to get dirty again, begin cooking no later than Tuesday, and then try to find room in the frig for all this stuff.
Ok, the big T-Day is finally here..........you're already exhausted from all the prep for this day but you wake up EARLY and get the bird in the oven, spend all morning finishing up the cooking, and welcome your family or guests. You sit down to this HUGE meal that would probably feed three times as many guests as you have - spend 30 minutes eating - and then spend the next three days washing dishes, trying to figure out what to do with the leftovers, and cleaning up the house again! Surely this can't be FUN! But, somehow it always is!
We're actually having our Thanksgiving on Friday this year. So tomorrow, I guess Jim and I will just have a hot dog and not worry about it! On Friday, we only have 8 coming for the BIG MEAL which is very nice as we usually have between 15 and 20. Jim always fries our turkey, but won't be able to this year and I'll miss that....but think we're doing what this card says and just have ham!
Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not.....I hope you have a wonderful day.
I'll enter this in the challenges at Belli Challenges (Thanksgiving), The Stamping Boutique (Thanksgiving), and the challenge at Sassy Cheryl's (Anything Goes).
I'm going to take a few days off here and won't be back around until Monday - but will try to pop in to visit your blog this weekend sometime.
Thanks for stopping by.........
Lynn
Yup, you've pretty much summed up the day, but its a great day when you get to go to someone else's house to eat! Love your card Lynn, and I know the turkey holding the sign appreciates you having ham. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
ReplyDeleteA nice tradition you have there in the States Lynn. Our BIG celebration/meal/visiting family/being thankful and grateful for our many blessings is on Christmas Day. We prepare our meat and puds the day before and then on Christmas morning we just do the rice/potatoes/veggies etc. Takes forever to prepare and 30 minutes to polish it off. Then we go for a nice kip in the afternoon, so that we can start all over again that evening, getting tucked into the leftovers... Love your card and I think Gammon and Cornish Hen is on our Menu card. hugs Sharon x
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn,
ReplyDeleteThat made me laugh... I know how big Thanksgiving is out there. So happy thanksgiving and eating ham. Lol.
This card is so rustic love the distress and the sanded look of the paper.
Hope DH is in good spirits. I have been remembering him in my prayers.
Hugs and have lots of fun eating, drinking and being merry,
Monica
It tends to be the same at Christmas in the UK Lynn - people buying food that they couldn't hope to get through in a month of Sundays! A few years ago we made the decision to plan menus and buy only what we needed and guess what? The world didn't end!!! Your turkey card is brilliant - you couldn't eat a turkey that looked at you like that!
ReplyDeletecute turkdy image-love the sign he is holding-happy thanksgiving Lynn-enjoy your Friday meal
ReplyDeleteHe's so cute and I love that background paper. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Love the card, Lynn! Delightful turkey. I'm not in charge of the hosting or cooking this year so am going to really enjoy the whole Thanksgiving celebration. I will do my part in clean up afterward and bring home some of the leftovers (also doing my part!) Happy T-Day, my friend.
ReplyDeleteDays of preparation and it's over in 30 minutes! How's that for a holiday. LOL
ReplyDeleteYou're right though, we all have so much to be thankful for and it's great to get together with family and friends....and STUFF ourselves.
Love your card. So stinkin' cute. And I love the expression on his face. Funny! We actually have both ham and turkey, so he's out of luck!

Lynn, as I JUST got home from my 3rd trip to the grocery store today....your post makes me smile! Ah, this dinner...I am starting to think the sides are going to upstage the turkey simple because there are SO many of them. Lol! Your card is great! That poor little guy with his pleading eyes. ReplyDeleteYour turkey is so sweet with that anxious expression on his face! I hope you and your hubby have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!
I always like what you write and enjoy it very much. Hope you guys had a great one. Lovely card and a cute image, I love that you used blue instead of the typical fall palette.
ReplyDeleteLynn now that was a good laugh. I hear ya! This year my mom had it so I didn't have to! lol I hope you guys have a wonderful day!!!
ReplyDeleteLynn, I'm also taking a few days off. We deserve it. You dscribed T-Day week perfectly. My grandmother used to tell me to clean after, never before, because no one will even notice if it is clean or not. Well I hope your day went fine today and I hope you enjoyed your hot dogs yesterday. We had 9 yesterday but you might think I was haven 50 for the food I prepared, just like you said. Enjoy your weekend and we'll talk next week.
ReplyDeleteHugs,Donna

I'm cracking up at your take on the Thanksgiving holiday! Where did those traditions begin anyway? I did learn to do things on a small scale since it's just the two of us, but where can I find a 5-lb turkey? LOL
