I Don't Do Watercoloring!

I love to see what other people do with watercolors and they're always so pretty!  I didn't have any watercolors and finally decided to bite the bullet the other day and buy just a very inexpensive set at Michael's.  Um.........I'll just say this......I'm glad I didn't invest a lot of money in them!  Maybe with practice I'll get the hang a little better.

I kept this as easy and simple as could be by just smearing some of the colors for the sky and stamping this image from Crackerbox Palace.  I love the image for guy cards and since I have a few guy birthdays coming up soon I thought I'd give it a try with watercoloring.  If they like the color purple I have scored a hit!

Thanks for stopping by.........
Lynn

  2. Hi, Lynn! Actually, your sunrise is gorgeous - and the silhouette looks amazing. If this is your first time, you've done a great job! I, too, tried inexpensive WCs at first, and the intensity just was not there. I also did not have very good WC paper. Since then, I've purchased better supplies (yes, from Michaels), and the color intensity is much better. Here is a good tutorial. It shows to lay water down before applying color, to control where the flow of color goes. Of course, you can always add water all over to achieve your type of background. And you can even use your water-dye-base reinkers for color, too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STsvQNE7wfw I love your card! hugs, de

  3. It looks lovely to me, Lynn! Great colour choices! And this is fabulous for a guy card! I would say - don't give up on watercolour - you've done great! I have done the odd watercolour background (not lately though) and it's not really my thing either, although now seeing yours I would like to try it again! You always inspire me! I used to watercolour my stamped images using Tombow markers but that went out the window when I started with digis - the printer ink would run! But I do love the look of watercolour - very nice!

  8. WOW! Lynn this is amazing - what's not to like! It's a stunning scene you've created, paired with the serene hues from the sunset - you did just fine! Watercoloring is sooo relaxing and gives the cards such a soft look ♥ Be proud of this!

  9. You are too, too hard on yourself, Lynn! Honestly, if you hadn't said, any of us would have thought you spent a lot of time watercoloring / sponging to make this glorious sunset sky to silhouette the cowboy and his horse! It looks just like nature does it! And the twine bow is the perfect finish!! Hugs, Darnell

  19. Such a charming card, Lynn and what an amazing background.

Hope all is well with both of you. Somehow I am unable to comment on more than one post on your blog.

The doggie card below is just sooooo cute. I tried commenting but the comment box would not open. And the story is the same for the other posts.

    Lots of love,

  21. Indeed you have score a hit Lynn! This masculine card is fabulous!! I love your water colored sunset!!! It looks really real so not sure why you think you aren't good with watercolors. And from what I've been learning, not all water color paints are created equal. So I guess I am saying, you get what you pay for. I've been the really good ones blend almost seamlessly on their own without much effort on your part. So don't give up yet, practice with your "cheap" ones and then get a good set and see if it doesn't make a difference. But to me, this card is perfectly water colored! Hugs, Brenda

  23. Well, not sure why you don't like your efforts, but I think you did great. That is a marvelous background for this image and your blended sunset looks pretty good to me! (You say you just 'smeared'? Well, I need to learn that technique, kiddo!) The background was great with this image, and it's a really nice masculine card...liked the texture of the twine bow with this one. TFS & Hugs

  24. Obviously you DO watercolor, Lynn. :-D This is magnificent! You nailed the sunset on your first try. Water coloring is all about suggesting images to the mind, not about painting photographic duplicates, my friend. I'm bowled over by this card.

  36. Why are you being so hard on yourself. This is amazing! Just remember lots of water on the paper then add the color. It will make it's own places all by itself!
