Monochromatic for Shopping Our Stash

(This is my second post for today........My post for {Pin}spirational Challenges is directly below - a little "Girly" card!)

Our challenge beginning today at Shopping Our Stash is themed.......Monochromatic!  We'd like you to use your favorite color (or even if you don't use your absolute fav, we won't tell) and create a monochromatic card for our challenge.  Fun, right!!  Be sure and check out Shopping Our Stash for all the details and also the wonderful inspiration from the DT.

A short story here - and I WILL keep it short!  After I retired, a friend of mine introduced me to card making.  I always received wonderful hand made cards from her and thought - hey, I can do that too......AND save so much money!!!  I even convinced Jim of how much money I'd save making my own cards instead of buying them!  Yikes!!!!!  Now I just spend my time trying to convince him the UPS man really has the wrong house!   Anyway, when I started all this, my friend gave me a ton of DP and card stock since she was moving on to other interests.

When I saw the theme for the challenge this week, I thought I'd make a card for Christmas and use up one of the poinsettias that I'd gotten before Christmas at the Dollar Store - now what to put with it?  I remembered I had this piece of embossed paper that my friend had given me and after finally finding it, cut a single small piece as the background for the poinsettia.  The paper is just gorgeous and very heavily embossed.  It's a tad darker than Very Vanilla but went well with this color and the gold.  I can't say that gold is my absolute favorite color (except maybe right now as all the outstanding athletes are winning gold medals) but for Christmas, I do love this color. Maybe I need to send this to Michael Phelps to go with all the gold he's won!

Thanks for stopping by...........and be sure and check out Shopping Our Stash!

  17. Your card is absolutely stunning and elegant. Perfect in every way! The embossed paper is fabulous as well as your dollar store poinsettia flower.

Ha! I craft to "save" money too. LOL! But over the years I have made at least 2,000 cards and a few other projects to give as gifts, so there is some financial return, right? I recall when I first discovered rubber stamping/card making; I spent $150 on stamps, inks, and paper. I made 3 identical Father's Day cards and my dh said, "yep, the cards cost $50 each." Of course that was not the only time I ever used those stamps, inks, and papers, but...
