The Story of a Card

I received my May card kit from Simon Says Stamp the other day and oohed and aahed over all the goodies in it.  Not that I could do anything half way decent with them, but they sure are pretty and fun to look at anyway.  This stamp set with roses, sentiment, and chipboard heart were in the box so thought I'd give it a go.  I should have just kept it in the box and oohed and aahed over it I think.  BUT, I had to at least try something.  These red roses started out so pretty and PINK - shaded just right and all that.......and then my Copic ran out of ink!  Grrrrrr....of course I don't have the refill (yet)!  So the pretty pink roses became red with the shading being pretty crappy all the way around.  Then I had this brilliant design in my mind - it should have stayed in my mind because it sure didn't come out looking so fantastic on paper.  Ok, I started adding the roses - um......not enough of them - too many of them - too many leaves - not enough leaves...............Another BIG grrrr........... finally just said the heck with it and here it is!

On a happier note - Jim was outside as I was snapping a picture of this and said "WOW, that's pretty"!!!
(Now you just gotta remember he's the one that thought a cow was a pig on another card I did!!!)   What more can I say!!!!!

I'll enter this in the challenge at There She Goes (April Showers, May Flowers).

Thanks for stopping by.......and if you get a chance,  pop on over tomorrow as I have fun sign for your pleasure!
Lynn

  2. nope. sorry. gonna have to side with jim on this one... this is definitely a verrrrrrrry pretty card indeed; and for the record i think the shading is beautifully done and the amount/position of roses is just PERFECT! ♥♥♥ (on the other hand, i can sooooo totally relate to card not being what i had in my head and "in the moment" of that feeling not being able to like ANYTHING about the card that has emerged... give it a few days... i predict it will grow on ya!) :)

  3. Just as I thought, you are too critical of your own work! Your card is absolutely stunningly beautiful, in fact, just perfect!

  4. I for one, really enjoy how you stacked the roses, and might have to case that idea. Thanks for always making me smile. Okay, maybe more than a smile. How about an out and out belly roll!!!

  6. Hey Lynn, I agree with Jim (but then I have also called a worm a snail once) this card is OUTSTANDING. I LOVE the red and green combo. There is something very typical and delightful about red roses even though you don't seem impressed with them. Shading or no shading, they look SUPERB. And the little heart makes it look so lovely. Trust me this is a bold and beautiful card.
    Love,

  7. Self-criticism is always the toughest. This is magnificent, Lynn! I'm so glad you didn't leave the kit in the box. If you really dislike this one, you can always send it to me. :-D Hugs

  8. HA, my dear, you are definitely too hard on yourself, and I whole heartedly agree with Jim.This is a beautiful card. Now you just put your self doubts into that box the roses came out of and accept the well deserved compliments. LOVELY creation!!!!!!

  10. Aww you are way to hard on yourself. I think these came out very nice and I love red roses so it's a winner for me. There is just enough of everything on there and I love the sentiment. See maybe Jim doesn't know his animals but he does not nice flowers when he sees them. Don't be too hard on the boy. LOL

  13. Such pretty flowers Lynn. Red is the colour of passion and those roses say ooh la la. Running our of supplies is very frustrating especially when you have something specific in mind.

  19. I'm with Jim on this one! Those roses look fabulous in vivid red against the bright white card base! I especially like that smaller panel popped up on the card to give it dimension! It's a gorgeous card!!!!! Seriously!

  22. Oh Lynn you have given me a great giggle - how often cards that we are not particularly happy with, others think are marvelous - and vice versa!!
Love the strong red of the roses.

  24. Once again, beg to differ on your opinions on this one! Turned out very pretty, despite all your copic woes. (That happens! Check Oozak for refills...good pricing). BTW, Jennifer McGuire has a good video using this same image, if you have time to check it out. This is a really pretty card, and you did a good job on the roses. TFS (nice to know I'm not the only one who will not like my own cards!) Hugs

  26. hahahahha... you always make me laugh! The same Jim who thought a cow was a pig... that made me burst out laughing. This isn't a pig though and this time Jim is right, this is very pretty. The contrast of those red roses against the white background is very classy and elegant. I don't really know what the pink ones would have turned out like but the red ones are gorgeous!

  27. Well, I think we outnumber you :) It's SO frustrating when it doesn't match the picture in your head, though. As to Jim's opinion...in the case of my DH, who once said a handmade flower looked like something the cat coughed up? I take the good compliments, and tease him about the bad ones.

  28. He's obviously a romantic Lynn! These roses really do look stunning - all velvety!

  33. Totally understand the head to hand disconnect...but I think the card looks great. I always get a little discombobulated when my husband comes into 'my bubble'...what the heck? I don't go into his 'man cave'!!! :)
