No laughing allowed at this card! I see all those beautiful cards with watercoloring and decided that even though I'm not good at that, I have to at least attempt it every so often.
Ok, I gathered up all my supplies.......Watercolors - I've been using a little tin of grade school type watercolors and everyone kept saying to get the "good" kind and I'd be able to tell the difference. So, I'm scooting through WallyWorld the other day I noticed they had some watercolors in little tube type deals by Daler Rowney. Since they were about $3.00 dollars more than the grade school kind, I figured those had to be better! (Last of the big spenders here you know). Ok, watercolors - check! Watercolor paper, embossing folder, card stock, Distress Markers, Stampendous stamp, and SSS sentiment - check! Little glass of water, paper towel, and even my dollar store palette! No problems......
I'm ready to set the world on fire........Started with the background. Holy Moly! This is not fun....just messy and HARD! Too much water - pill bugs start to appear. Not enough water - it just sits there! Finally managed to salvage this little piece that was passable (pill bugs and all). Stamped the butterfly and used the Distress Markers for watercoloring that. I'm pretty sure this is the forth or fifth one I attempted. Rest got tossed pretty fast. Cut this one out, stamped it again on the watercolor background, and then popped this up on top of it. Maybe I'll even try this again someday.......maybe - and yes, I'm sure it would have pill bugs too!!
Thanks for stopping by.........and have a fun weekend.

Lynn! I think it looks great!!!!!!!!! You're too hard on yourself :)
Watercolor is definitely a challenge. I took the beginner and now am taking intermediate class and there's so much to learn!!!!!!
I can't wait to see what you made from the Jennifer McGuire technique!
OK, I'm laughing but not at the card, Lynn. I'm laughing at picture I have in my head of you in the midst of that process, scrambling around trying to get rid of the pill bugs! lol I happen to love the card, the background, and that gorgeous butterfly. The embossing is great. :-D
I am watercolor challenged myself, Lynn! Your pretty butterfly has me wishing for spring! I am tired of being cold!
Lynn, I am not laughing! I think it turned out beautiful! I have trouble with watercolors too, but I sure love when someone else uses them! The butterfly looks awesome!
No laughing here Lynn! I love the background and you know what they say, practice makes perfect. A beautiful card and love the sentiment.

This is very pretty, Lynn! It's not funny at all, but your blog post gave me a chuckle! I find watercolouring very hard so it's not just you! I don't see the pilling!
Wow Lynn nothing to laugh at here, its stunning I love the strong colours

No laughing here. I think it came out perfect and I cant's see any pill bugs. The butterfly is lovely as well. I like the embossing just sitting nice in the background letting the watercolors take center stage. I hope you do try again and share it with us. Have a fun weekend.

It looks lovely, Lynn. You're too hard on yourself! Reading your post really made me chuckle. :-D xx
Are you kidding me? It is a bright, pleasant card and it has no flaws that can be seen. The blue and green remind me of the earth, and that butterfly is giving it's grace from above. Keep at it! <3
I'm sorry you felt like you struggled with this, but the striking colors dazzled me immediately, and I just love it! The black & white sentiment panel is such a wonderful contrast, and you've tried way more than I have! I only own water color pencils and a spray mister - I absolutely HATE making a mess when I do cards! LOL
Don't be so hard on yourself Lynn, this is a stunner - love it!
Blessings
Maxine
why would I laugh, it turned out beautiful.
How fun is this- keep at it- it is so fun. Your first watercolor is a masterpiece Lynn! I love your vibrant colors : ) No laughing here- at all!!!
OH Im laughing with you Lynn, because Ive had the same experience!! I wadded up plenty of paper lol. Everyone makes it look so easy but it certainly doesnt come that way for me. So now I have to say you did a Fantastic job,you cant tell you had trouble with it at all. The butterfly is gorgeous and look super on you wonderful background! So Im saying keep it up :)
Gosh, Lynn, I think this is spectacular! You've certainly got the hang of it, so it sounds like you need a different kind of paper, maybe? It does make a difference; those pills are so frustrating otherwise! Send me an email if you like. As I said, you sure have an eye for color, so keep going! Hugs, Darnell
Well I think this is beautiful, Lynn! And look at all that mixed media! The pills make it look more realistic. Do try again.
Kudos for you watercoloring! I think your card is lovely with such pretty colors!
No laughing here Lynn! I think this is beautiful!!! Your background looks so pretty to my old eyes, love the color combo. Your butterfly looks amazing and once again I love the color combo. I think you did great and definitely should keep playing with your new watercolors. Hugs, Brenda
Wow Lynn!! You've done SUCH an amazing job with your watercolor!! I love that you've decided to try out some 'cheap' media to do it with and have a play with them!! The results looks amazing!! :) Thanks for sharing! HUGS
This is fabulous card, Lynn and I agree with Maria that you are being hard on yourself. I love the RIOT of colours here.
Love,
M
Definetly no laughing as this card is truly beautiful! The colors are simply marvelous and make your card just pop against that stark white embossed background what a wonderful sentiment to add !! Outstanding! (And I want to color with those gradeschool watercolor sets too and I want to color with those gradeschool watercolor sets to LOL!)
ok, i ♥♥♥LOVE♥♥♥ this, it's gorrrrrrrgeous and so vivid, i think you've done BEAUTIFULLY with watercolor!!!!!!!!!!
ps: the pill bugs are not failures of you or the paint... the culprit is yer paper there missus. ordinary cardstock is just not up to more than 1 DAMP layer of watery color. take a 40% coupon to the big box crafty emporium & buy the smallest tablet of watercolor paper (the cheap or student level is FINE!!!) and i predict that all the things you found frustrating this time will EVAPORATE. seriously. (if you're planning to stamp after, use the less textury side of the watercolor paper to paint on... the textury side may not take as smooth of an impression.) ♥
Reading this, I felt like I was right there along with you! These are my troubles when I try to watercolor too! BUT...this is amazing, and it turned out beautifully! That is an awesome butterfly & looks great with the shadowed outline under the brilliant coloring. And your background looks great too. I think you better keep on going with the DRowney colors cause you turned out a stunning piece!!! Also like the mount over the swirly embossing. A really pretty card altogether. You done good, girl! TFS & Hugs.
I love your bg and it is perfect that butterfly. I think if you keep trying you will get to where you can do it in your sleep! Anyway, this came out wonderfully and definitely worth the adventure. I love this card! Hugz
