Lynn (that's me)

For my card today I've used the new release image called Revenge of the Nerd Ned! Isn't he just about the cutest little nerd you've seen today! When I first saw him I kept thinking of the "Geek Squad" from a store that sells computers. My thought on the subject though is that I don't care what the guy looks like - if he can work on computers, he's "A" Number One in my book!!!

Be SURE and check out Dude Time Doodles and the STORE for fantastic images and savings!

Let the Sun Shine

The challenge over at Creative Inspirations Paint is to make something inspired by your "dream vacation"! With all the cold and wet weather we're having right now I decided that my dream vacation would be any place where there is SUN! And when I think of sun, I think of the beach! This is a little different from all the Christmas and Valentine's Day cards you've been seeing lately. I'm still not sure if I'm liking this or not, but one thing for sure.... it's BRIGHT!

I used the Just Beachy set from SU and the sun image is from Marks Finest Papers. All the paper is from SU and I believe the layout is an old one from SCS. All the images have been "popped" up on dimensionals.

Bold and Free

I've seen so many one layer cards at different blogs and also with these little lines "framing" it. That should be very easy for me to do - right? Wrong! First of all I started off trying to do the one layer deal. After about 6 tries (and ALOT of card stock) I finally decided that I'd REALLY like that red frame around it. So I ditched the one layer idea in a hurry. Ok, got a piece of white, stamped the image, then the sentiment...and all is looking good. I then decided to do the black line around to kinda "frame" it like I've seen so many ladies do. Got the ruler out and away I went - no problem! Yikes! A BIG problem! Even using the ruler things started going a little crazy! Let's just say - this very simple looking card used up about a half a ream of paper, a ton of ink, and I think my ruler is crooked now!!!!!

The image is from the Bold and Free set by Marks Finest Papers and the sentiment is from Happy Birthday by CTMH.

Tweet, Tweet, and Merry Christmas

Just a quick post showcasing this cute little Winter Bird from Starry Nights Studio Digi Shop. Stop by her store today and check out all the wonderful images she's created. I colored him in Prismapencils and used some Ballet Blue and White card stock. The background was completed using the Swirls embossing folder. I made the "frame" using a couple of SU punches and the bow was made with the Bow-Easy.

I hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas.

Inspired By.....

Dude Time Doodles is having an Inspiration Challenge - and as the Guest Designer for this month, I get to participate! But you can participate too. You have 2 weeks to link your entry for this challenge. Be sure and stop by today and check out Dude Time Doodles.

When I saw this picture for the inspiration - I saw BLUE!!! And when I think of blue AND this cute little Youth Football image from Bonibleaux Designs, I think of my son, David. (Yep, get ready for a story here!)

When my son, David, was a Freshman in high school, he decided to play football. David was at least a head shorter than all of his classmates. I mean REALLY short. He looked EXACTLY like this in his Hondo High School football uniform. The bottom of his jersey came down past his knees (it was the smallest jersey they had)! Of course he never got to play and was just the best bench-warmer ever - but he dearly LOVED football. He finished his Freshman and Soph. years and was still short (and SLOW) and still warming the bench. When he was a Junior, they let him play about six minutes - for the entire year!! Still he loved being on the team. His Senior year they changed coaches and put David on defense. Even though that jersey still just hung on him, he was GOOD at his position - and went on to make All District, Player of the Week, etc........He was an inspiration to the entire team and the younger players since he was so small. His heart was into the game and it finally paid off for him. David is a grown man now and an attorney in Dallas (of course he's still my baby - and yes, still pretty short)! This Inspiration reminded me of the blue and white of HHS and the inspiration my son was for so many young boys.

Be sure and check out Dude Time Doodles and submit your entry for the Inspiration Challenge. You could win the Top Blog or Top Three!! Take a peek at the Design Teams projects - You'll find so much creative talent.

This is also for the following challenges: Paper Pretties (to make a masculine themed card) and Totally Gorjuss (for someone special).

Bum Steer Award

If you're from Texas, more than likely you've read Texas Monthly magazine. At the end of every year the magazine publishes the Bum Steer Awards for truly outrageous things that have happened in Texas for that year - for example: In a cost-saving move, Texas A & M University decided to stop stocking student dorm bathrooms with toilet paper! Yikes!! Anyway, the TOP Bum Steer Award this year went to the University of Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboy football teams. Talk about a non-winning year for both!! This is NOT good because Texans DO love their football!

So, this little card is dedicated to all the UT Longhorn football fans (burnt orange is the teams colors)! Don't you just love those eyes on this little guy! He looks about as sad as all the Longhorn football fans have looked this year.

This card will actually be a birthday card for my brother in law (a die hard UT football fan). The image is from Kah-Wink-E-Dink. I'm not sure where that patterned paper came from. I colored him with Prismapencils and used SU card stock. The big brad with the star in the middle is from SU.

This is for the following challenges: Creative Inspirations Paint (inspired by a star) and the sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches.

Jarheads For OWH Midweek Throwdown

I'm so proud to be a contributor to Operation Write Home and join in the Midweek Throwdown challenge being sponsored by Dude Time Doodles today.

Check out the Operation Write Home blog today and pick up a FREEBIE or two!!!!!

Now what is a JARHEAD!!!! When I was working on this card my husband walked in and looked at it and said it looked like a jarhead! Well, hello......what in the world is that? Since he's a former Marine, he just happened to know what he was talking about. A jarhead is the slang term that was used by sailors in WWII for Marines because they said that when Marines were in their dress blues with their stiff collar they resembled a Mason Jar - hence the name Jarheads.

This image from Bonibleaux Designs is called The General. Of course I HAD to use some camo paper on it and I also printed the image twice and paper pieced his pants and hat in the camo. The flag was also printed twice, colored, then "popped up".

Thanks for stopping by........and go check out Operation Write Home and Boni's store at Bonibleaux Designs today! While you're roaming around in blogg-land, don't forget that Bnoibleaux Designs is also sponsoring the Stamps R Us Challenge (anything goes).

Stylish Blog Award

Well, no one has EVER accused me of having style - but since I received this sweet, sweet, Blog Award from Monica, I guess you'll just have to say - I Got Style!!! This is the second Blog Award I've received from Monica - how terrific is that!!!! Love it Monica. Be sure and check out her BLOG as she makes such sensational cards.

I think I'm suppose to give eight facts about myself........

1. I'm older than dirt - but still kicking (just not as high anymore)
2. I have two granddaughters and my husband has six (alot of happy feet running around when they're all here at the same time) Plus, my son and his wife will be having a baby in February
3. We have a little doxie named Rambo - who RULES this household
4. I used to be a sailing, canoe, and swimming instructor - and no, I was NOT the bikini type (although I'm sure I would have looked stunning in one)
5. I retired as a Pre Trial Release Probation Officer after 24 years. I knew it was time to retire when the defendants kept getting younger and I kept getting older. One of my last "clients" said his goal in life was to become a Rock Star - time for me to retire!
6. I started making cards because I thought I could save money making my own!!! Yikes
7. I live in an extremely small town in Texas but love it.
8. I enjoy making crafts and blogging and would not trade anything for the blogging buddies I've made. They are all very special.

That about sums it up............hope everyone is having a nice weekend and be sure and check out Monica's blog.

Thanks for stopping by.................

Christmas 2011

This just may have to be my first Christmas card for 2011! I have all my cards for this year completed and ready to mail. Now I need to get to the Post Office before Christmas is over with. Hopefully, tomorrow.

I've had this card in my mind for a while and decided I'd better make it before I forgot what I was thinking. So, yes, you get to see one more Christmas card I'm afraid. I used some Cherry Cobbler (LOVE that color), Crumb Cake, Old Olive, Very Vanilla, and some SU DP. The image and sentiment are from To You and Yours from SU. I used my SU markers to "color" the image. The lace - ah....another one of those thrift shop finds! I used glitter on the "snow" on the house, ground, and the swirls. The panel in Cherry Cobbler was embossed using the Square Lattice die.

This is for the following challenges:

Rubber Red Neck - Color challenge to use Real Red, Crumb Cake and Old Olive. I substituted Cherry Cobbler for the Real Red. This is color round-up #12
Stampin Royalty - Winter Holiday (Christmas)
Creative Inspirations Paint - Inspired by a snow globe - when I was growing up we had a snow globe with a little house similar to this in it. It always amazed me and I wondered how they got all that "snow" in there!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.........

Some Mojo

I'm not real sure what's going on with me.....I think I'm having a complete "let-down" from Christmas cards. My mojo is gone, history, lost, kaput! I finally MADE myself sit down today and make a non-Christmas type card. I may try to make a couple more Christmas cards in a few days just to have for next year.

I used some Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Very Vanilla, and My Minds Eye DP on this. The image is from Penny Black and and the sentiment from SU. In case you can't tell, that IS a chocolate brown bow on the side. It looks black in the photo but it's brown....and I made it myself (in other words, no Bow Easy was used!) I also made that red bow on the previous post. Maybe I'm getting a little better at this bow making stuff.
This is for Mojo Monday - sketch

All Wrapped Up

I was hard at work making this card, coloring the image, getting the layout I wanted, etc..when hubby walked through the room! STOP - Put on the brakes - WHOA! "Hey", he said, "now THAT IS WHAT I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS!!!" How easily they forget - I said, "Don't you remember that this is exactly how I looked before I got my hair cut?"!!!!! After a couple of "eye rolls" and him saying "Yeah right", I decided that I'd actually give this to him for Christmas. I'm thinking of putting it in a huge box and literally "wrapping it up"! So then I had to change the entire outlook on this card - and make it to look like a little wrapped up gift!

Stamps R Us is having a challenge to submit a holiday card. Anyone can play AND the winner will receive 7 free images from Bugaboo! Plus the winner and the top three will get a badge to put on their sidebar! BE SURE and check out the Stamps R Us blog today - you still have one more week to submit your entry! This little sassy lady is just one of the many images that Bugaboo has to offer.

I'll be entering this in the following challenges:
Mark's Finest Papers - red and green

This is probably the cutest Santa image I've seen in a long, long time! He just makes me want to sit on his lap and give him MY wish list! You can find this little Santa dude over at Boni's store. That, plus many more cute images! I was really wanting to add my name to his little list - I mean I've been PRETTY good throughout the year! Um.....well, that could be debatable I guess. Anyway, I'll be sending this to a family that his three children - Austin, Kennedy, and Kyleigh. I KNOW they'll want to be included on Santa's stop to their house. That's one of the nice things about the image - you can write in whatever you want on that list.

Vinca

I was cleaning up my computer desk this evening and noticed my flower press! Um..I wonder if there's anything in that? Yep! About a month ago (before it started getting too cold) I picked some vinca and leaves and put it in the flower press. It was dried and ready to go - on something. After I saw the sketch at Clean and Simple Stamping, I knew where it was going to go.

I'm such a chicken - was going to just put all this on the card base, but decided to put it instead on another piece of white card stock and pop it up. I mess up enough paper, card bases, etc, as it is and didn't think I wanted to mess up another one tonight - so that's why I popped it up. Anyway, the sentiment (Well Scripted from SU) was stamped in Lovely Lilac and the ribbon was in my stash. The flowers and leaves are REAL!

Not an Easel Card

Everyone does these wonderful easel cards, so I thought - hey, I can do that too! I actually DID one with this image, etc. and it turned out very nice. I kept wondering though if the recipient was going to figure out how to stand it up and all. I finally decided to just go ahead with it and sat down to take a few photos so I could post it here. THIS is where the problem started! I think I took about twenty pictures of the card and they all looked FAT, FAT, FAT! No matter what angle I photographed it from it still looked FAT! We're talking like about 500 pounds FAT too. So............I ditched that and made this card (extremely CAS) instead. I really like it even though, as I said, it's super CAS.

The image is from Snow Swirled (SU). I heat embossed it with the Egyptian Gold (Judikins) embossing powder. The gold ribbon I used had these little swirls in it and it really matched the image. Even still, the photo looks a little fat - although not the 500 pound kind.

This is for the following challenges:
Creative Inspirations Paint - inspired by the Midas Touch
The Paper Players - wet embossing.
