Guest Designer for The Male Room Challenge

I'm so excited to be the guest designer over at The Male Room Challenge where the theme is Feathers.  It's a fun challenge and all you have to do is follow the theme and make it masculine.

There are so many different directions you could go with the word "feathers" but I just went with a single little feather for my masculine card today. I used a very old stamp from Mark's Finest Papers.  This company is no longer in business but you can probably find some of the stamps on Ebay. I stamped the background feather in Hero Arts Shadow ink and then the Indians and sentiment in Obsidian from Altenew.  After that it was a matter of layering the image a couple of times with the black and white.  Some twine from May Arts was added last and then all was mounted on some textured white cardstock.

New Stuff

I've been doing so good and not buying a whole bunch of new things since I already have tons of stuff and I won't live long enough to use it all.  However, every so often I just HAVE to make a purchase to give my life a little oomph.  So........here's some oomph!

I follow a blog called My Pinkie is Inkie in Boxertown and have been drooling over the pre-printed paper she was using so what else could I do but go get some.  Check out her blog - beautiful cards!  Anyway, the paper is from Blue Knight Rubber Stamps and is gorgeous!  I already had this stamp from Blue Knight but paired with their paper really gives it that extra something special.

I assume this is a coyote and if you've ever seen one out in the wild they're just usually pretty straggly looking - but this one is so majestic!  I guess it could be a wolf too.  It really doesn't matter because it's a great stamp!

I'll enter this in the challenge at Allsorts - Four legged friends or anything goes....and Pammies Inky Pinkies - anything goes......and ..............Jan's Digi Stamps Challenge - anything goes

Thanks for stopping by..........and keep smiling!

Leaves

The challenge over at The Male Room is asking for leaves.  I thought long and hard trying to come up with a masculine card with leaves on it.  I've got all sorts of leaf dies but all were just too small for what I was thinking - so finally came up with this pretty embossing folder......not one of the new 3D ones, but a very old one from Provo Craft.  I used some Kraft card stock and some green patterned paper along with a bit of twine and a Simon Says Stamp "thanks" die.  A very simple card but that's ok because I think guys like it like that.

I'll enter this in The Male Room Challenge - Leaves.

Keep On Truckin'

I've had this stamp (from Stampendous) in my "I need to do" bucket for a while and finally decided to tackle it - with watercolors!  I've been trying to practice more using the watercolors and this was a good "victim".  On the package it came in it showed the truck being rusty looking and that's exactly what I decided to do too since it reminded me of an old truck my dad had so long ago.

It was in that truck that I guess you could say I had my first driving experience .  I was either 7 or 8  years old and my cousin was the same age.  We hopped in the truck and decided to take it for a spin (with me as the driver).   Somehow I got it in gear and he crawled down on the floorboard and popped the clutch - and away we went......  We never even turned the key to start it but it promptly rolled down the driveway at a pretty good clip ----- and ran right into the house next door!   Now you want to talk about getting into trouble for something!!!  Whoa!  Plus, all the damages to the house we hit. Ah....memories.......

The Giraffe

Something a little different from me today.  I finally broke down and bought several Blue Knight stamps the other day.  Love them!!!  I kept seeing so many pretty cards with them so just had to jump in and get my feet wet too.  I love this one with the tree and giraffe.  It also comes with a pretty sentiment but since I was going to use it for a guys birthday card, I added a very old one from Simon Says Stamp instead.   I blended several of the oxide inks for the background and then stamped over that with a stencil with a walnut brown oxide .  I thought it gave the background sort of a giraffe-y look.

That's it folks.......a quick card.

Hoot Hoot Hooray! - 2 CCC

We have a special treat today over at our 2 Crafty Critter Crazies Challenge!  Our sponsor is Donna Ellis of Creative Smiles!  Donna not only has a wonderful blog, but also did this fabulous image for us to use on our challenge today - featuring the Great Horned Owl.  It comes in the pre-colored version and also black and white - along with a sentiment too!  Thank you Donna for letting us use this fantastic image!

Come on over and play along in our challenge and you could also receive this set of The Great Horned Owl images from Donna.  The challenge is always Anything Goes and all you have to do is have some type of critter on your card or project.

I did something a little different for my hooter card today ---- Distressed.  EEK!  I haven't done that in several years I'm sure but this little guy just called for it somehow.  I used the pre-colored version because Donna had done such a great job of coloring him and I wanted to show that off.  I used some Very Vanilla card stock from Stampin' Up (not sure they even have that anymore) and some patterned papers from CTMH.  I love using the CTMH papers for distressing since it's white core.  This paper is also very old like the SU card stock.  I cut the owl out with a MFT stitched oval and added some distress ink and twine.

Thanks for stopping by..........and come on over and join in on the challenge.

Oh Deer

It's getting a little close to the countdown for Christmas now so you're going to be seeing some pretty clean and simple cards here.  What am I saying anyway..........That's what you normally see here!  Oh well.......

This was really a quickie and it has more of masculine feel I guess.  I LOVE that deer die from KaiserCraft.  I think the sentiment banner die is from Simon Says Stamp.  As far as the sentiment.....your guess is as good as mine on that.  The problem is that I have all my Christmas stamps in a canvas crate type thing and in order to say which set the 'season's greetings' stamp came from I'm going to have to get up, walk over to where the crate is, and then dig through there looking for it.  I seriously doubt anyone really cares where it came from so........laziness is kicking in and I'm not going to look.  If you HAVE to know, shoot me an email and then I'll go look!  Nothing like a little honesty here.

I'll enter this in the Your Next Stamp challenge - #127 Mad for Plaid

A Couple of Horses - 2 Crafty Critter Crazies

It's that time again - another critter challenge at 2 Crafty Critter Crazies.  We'd love to have you join in on our challenge - just make sure you have some type of critter on your card.  We're being sponsored this month by QKR who also provided us with some wonderful images.

First up  - all in grays and blues.  I LOVE this image for a masculine card.  I didn't even attempt to color it because I think it's so dynamic looking just as is.  I did run a little bit of green over the grass but that was it.  It's framed out super simple and the large silver circle star was added with some twine.

I'd like to enter this card in the QKR Stampede Challenge - Anything goes

Since I'm still trying to do more than one card with either a stamp set or an image, I have this pretty horse framed out with some green plaid and solid green paper.  The sentiment is from Taylored Expressions.  Guys need to be told they're fabulous every so often I think.

That's it for today, but be sure and check out 2 Crafty Critter Crazies and enter your card or project.

For a Guy

YeeHaw and all that kind of good stuff!!!!  A very CAS card for one of the guys for whatever occasion I need it for.  I think it'd be good for a birthday, Father's Day, or whatever.

The cowboy and rider are from Stampendous and the sentiment is from Close to My Heart.  I've always loved that sentiment because when you come right down to it, there really IS a little cowboy in everyone....male or female. (No, I'm not going to show you a picture of my cowboy boots today though)!!!!   I added a few embossed lines and that was it.

I'd like to enter this in the challenge at AAA cards - one layer with optional of black and white.

Guesting with a Frog!

I'm so excited to announce that I'm the guest designer at The Male Room challenge!  What a wonderful honor and especially nice since I love making cards for males!

The theme for this challenge is My Bad/Sorry.   I don't know about you, but I can be very late getting out birthday cards so I always like to have a stack of them on hand.  I seem to be saying "sorry" a lot on cards lately.

This little guy just seems to fit the bill for a late birthday card for a guy. I stamped the background on vanilla card stock with Flores Suaves from Stampin' Up and then used some distress ink in Shabby Shutters and Mowed Lawn.  The star of the show though is that frog - isn't he the cutest!  He's from Technique Tuesday along with the flying insects and sentiment.  I topped him off with a birthday hat from Tim Holtz.

It looks like I must have frogs on my brain since my last post had one on it too!  I think they always make a cute card though and they always make me smile!

Thanks for stopping by..........and be sure and check out The Male Room!

"Bear" With Me

Seems that in my life I go one step forward, and then two steps back.  I think this time I went one step forward and about 25 back................Ugh!

Quick and simple card for one of the guys that I'd done a month or so ago.  I used an image from Newton's Nook.

So, like the title says......."bear" with me and I'll be back around when I get back around.  It's just not possible at this time though.

Bring on the Beer

I haven't even gone back to my little crafty corner lately but did find this picture of just a plain old mug of beer card and thought I'd put it on the blog so you wouldn't forget I was around.  Just haven't been in the card making mood it seems.  Typical ups and downs with the moods on that I guess.  Anyway..........( And see, you saw the picture and title of this and you really really thought I was going to have a super fun post today or something.  Guess I was behaving myself today.  Unusual I know).

The stamp is from Jane's Doodles - and you really can't get much more CAS than this I know.  I added some liquid applique for the foam, colored it with Copics, and that was just about it.  The card base is Kraft of course.

Seems I've been on a masculine card making roll lately and that's good since guys need cards too.

I just notice that the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge is food and drink - so going to pop this over there!

Thanks for stopping by...........and maybe I'll have more to share next week.

Double Deer Birthday

Like it or not, deer season around here will be starting soon.  I can always tell by the number of camouflage vehicles that seem to pass through like they're in some type of road race.  They have their big trucks, four wheelers, deer feeders, and ice chests.......and I swear some of the ice chests are even decked out in camo!  Amazing!  I think the deer have already put the word out on the grapevine to start looking for hiding places now.

Anyway, not only is it deer season soon - but also a couple more birthdays for guys coming up.  I started making one card and then figured I might as well double it using the die cut on one and the negative die cut on the other.  On the above card I used the negative, some basic black card stock, twine, and a sentiment.

This second card is just like the first one - yet used the actual die cut and some wood panel looking design paper.

One of my blogging friend has been using this wonderful deer head die for a long time - and even sent me some die cuts of it not long ago.  After I received those I knew I just had to get that die - and did. It's from Kaiser Craft and makes great guy cards.

I used the sketch from My Favorite Things on both of these cards so will enter one in their challenge.  I'd also like to enter one in The Male Room challenge (they're celebrating their 5th birthday - congrats on that)!!

Ribbit

I've never made a get well card specifically for a guy - so here's a first.  The frog and bugs are part of a set from Technique Tuesday.  Cute stamp set!  The sentiment is from Sunny Studio (that also had frogs on it).   Why am I getting all hung up on frogs lately!!!  Scary!  Anyway..........like I said, this will be going to a guy and I'm sure it'll put a smile on his face.  May not make him feel better but well, you know.......

I followed the sketch at Tuesday Morning Sketches so will enter this there.

For A Guy

I used to make cards for guys all the time and really enjoyed doing it but the last year or so I've gotten out of the habit and only seem to make one when  I have to have one - and then it's usually done in a hurry.

After my sweet blogging friend Carol sent me some die cuts of this fabulous Kaisercraft deer I decided I was going to use them for birthdays and also Christmas.   Probably anything else I can think of  too since I love this die!

This is super duper extremely simple but sometimes you just have to do one of those even though this may be a little over the top on simplicity.    A lot of guys don't like all the fluff and stuff on a card anyway so I think this will work just fine.

Since it's completely done in black and white I'll enter it in the Tuesday Throwdown challenge (to use black and white).

Sunup To Sundown

I have to do so many guy birthday cards during the year and think this stamp from Crackerbox Palace is always a good choice.  Very CAS with some distress inks for the background and layers upon layers of the frame work.  I decided in order to give it a little dimension I'd layer three of each of the frames on top of each other.  So, lots of snippets on here and lots of grinding of the Cuttlebug.  Twine added, happy birthday on the inside, and it's a done deal!

Because of all the snippets of the frame I'll enter this in the challenge at Pixie's Crafty Workshop and the challenge at Double D Challenge - to create with a silhouette.

A Lot of Bull

No, I won't give you any of my 'bull' today - but will show you the card I made this past weekend.  You really don't want to hear my 'bull' anyway I'm sure.  I guess Jim didn't either since he buried himself in golf and basketball on TV this weekend and gave me a chance to craft a little.

I haven't made a masculine card in so long and really don't mind making them at all.   I used one of the stamps from Mark's Finest Papers (Bold and Free)......a little patterned paper, sponging with Distress Inks, twine, and a few wooden stars - and the card was completed.  The image was colored with Copics.

I'll enter this in the challenge at Speedy Fox and Friends (Brown) and the Mod Squad Challenge (Animal).

An Indian But No Cowboy

We don't ever put any type of costume on Rambo for Halloween - or any other time of the year for that matter - but about a month ago I got him a little cowboy hat.  The cutest thing you've ever seen - but do you think he'd leave that on his head for one second while I was trying to take a picture!  Not even!  So, all you get today is the Indian!  I WILL get that shot of Rambo one of these days though so stay tuned.

The stamp is from I Brake for Stamps and sentiment from Mark's Finest Papers....all stamped on Kraft card stock.  A couple of pieces of some very old patterned paper and a clip were added and I called it done.

Thought I'd give this one to Jim since he loves reading about the old west and Indians and would have loved living back in those times.  Not me so much since I don't think I could handle buffalo tongue or something like that to eat.  UCK!

Free on the Plains

This is not your typical Father's Day card at all, but think Jim will like it.  Usually I give him something silly but since he likes stories of cowboys and Indians I thought this would be a better fit this year.

I used a couple of stamps from the Bold and Free set - Mark's Finest Papers.   The feather was stamped on Canson watercolor paper and then colored with the Zig Clean Color Brush markers - mixing some blues and greens.

I'll enter this in the challenge at Speedy Fox and Friends (use only the corner).

Thanks for stopping by........

Wanted: Someone Special

A fun card for someone special here at the Back Forty.  Guess this will probably have to go to Jim since they resemble each other - and he really is a special someone in my life.  Don't know if he'll agree with the resemblance though!

This is one of those - where was your freaking mind? - cards!  I stamped the image, from Crackerbox Palace, and then colored the bandana and hat band in blue.  All's good.......after getting it completed though I decided it needed to be red instead.  Stamped and colored again and paper pieced the bandana and the cut out the hat and popped it up over the one with the blue on it.  Instant dimension!  All's good once again.

Ok, let's make it look like a wanted poster.  YIKES!  Don't ever try what I did in the house!  I decided to burn around the edges for that rustic feel.  Got out the matches and fired up.  When you do that you're not only going to have burning paper everywhere but also a stench that will knock your socks off!  It was too windy to attempt this all outside so just carried on and then started spraying Fabreze everywhere!  Gives it a different look anyway.

Oh, the image was stamped on some vanilla Neenah card stock and then added the Paper Studio wood looking paper.  I sponged around the image and base card with Antique Linen.  The sentiment is from Paper Smooches and I added a tiny red heart and the twine.

I'll enter this in the Anything Goes challenge at Simon Says Stamp.

Thanks for stopping by.........and have a great weekend!
