Bold and Free

I've seen so many one layer cards at different blogs and also with these little lines "framing" it. That should be very easy for me to do - right? Wrong! First of all I started off trying to do the one layer deal. After about 6 tries (and ALOT of card stock) I finally decided that I'd REALLY like that red frame around it. So I ditched the one layer idea in a hurry. Ok, got a piece of white, stamped the image, then the sentiment...and all is looking good. I then decided to do the black line around to kinda "frame" it like I've seen so many ladies do. Got the ruler out and away I went - no problem! Yikes! A BIG problem! Even using the ruler things started going a little crazy! Let's just say - this very simple looking card used up about a half a ream of paper, a ton of ink, and I think my ruler is crooked now!!!!!

The image is from the Bold and Free set by Marks Finest Papers and the sentiment is from Happy Birthday by CTMH.

Thanks for stopping by..............

The final product is wonderful, though! :oP I am utterly fascinated by one layer cards but cannot make one to save my life. I'm a layers kinda girl I guess. ;o)

Great job with the frame! Yes, my first time it took A LOT of work, but then I just ended up making a cardstock frame for the outline for my black pen.
You can always use a rectangle Nestie too if you've got one!!

Great card! Even though it is not one layer, it is still a great, clean design. (I can't make 1 layer cards!)

Love it - I have so much problem making clean cards, I am a 'more is more' kind of crafter - but I SO admire those who can create something as stunning as this card. Lovely.

LOL! At your post, not you! I would have the same problems you encountered for sure! But your end result is fabulous!

your card turned out to be beautiful. I had to laugh at your description of making it though, it sounded like something I have done more than once!

LOL All the rulers I've ever used are crooked! :) You did a great job though and I definitely want to try a framed card again-good to know I'm not the only one who has had difficulty with this "simple" look.

You know I love CAS cards but I have an almost impossible time making one-layer cards too. Everything has to be perfect on them which can sometimes be difficult. I also know what you mean about drawing a straight line. Not as easy as it sounds. BUT... your card looks like it was effortless and like you intended it to be this way to begin with. I don't see any wiggles in your line and I like how it's broken at the bottom to leave room for the sentiment. The red gives a great frame to show off your image.
