It's time again for another challenge over at Shopping Our Stash. This week our theme is Wooden it be Nice! We want to see anything that reflects wood - like maybe paper, wood embellishments, trees, a log cabin or whatever........as long as it reflects wood. Fun, right? I never seem to have enough sympathy cards and (just being honest here) as you get older you really need more of them. Guess that's a fact of life though. I'll never forget a neighbor of mine (who was 98 years old at the time) telling me that all her friends had died - then she put this big smile on her face and said that wasn't a problem as she just made new, and younger, friends! Pretty good way of looking at things. She lived to be 106.
Anyway, on to my card. I used an image from SU's Thoughts and Prayers set and stamped the image with markers. This is SO HARD for me to do! You know, where you color in on the rubber with the markers and then huff and puff, then stamp! I get it colored in, huff and puff until I feel like the house is going to blow down, and then stamp! Sometimes it comes out ok, other times, not! I just can't seem to get the vivid colors. From my "stash" I used the image (haven't used lately), the paper (maybe never used?) beige ribbon (has been very neglected) and the small brown pearls ( the package was still unopened).
I'll enter this is the following challenges: My Time Made Easy (Sketch), and Speedy and Friends (Sympathy card), and Squigglefly (Monochromatic).

This card has something vey comforting about it... must be the homogenity of browns... that embossing folder is to die for. And the card is very nice.

well all that huffing & puffing ♥DEFINITELY♥ paid off this time! no just a BRILLIANT interpretation of the "wooden" theme AND an awesome feat of stash usage... this is truly one of the most beautiful sympathy cards i've ever seen... and they are sooooo hard to really get right, imo! WELL DONE, indeed!! ♥

Love the attitude of your neighbor! Sometimes I really think that is a lot of it when getting older...attitude! My grandmother always said she wanted to age gracefully. :)

Wow! 106!!!!!! My grandmother lived til 105 and my hubby's grandfather til 104! We're in it for the long haul it seems!

I just love this card. That is a beautiful tree and you've turned it into a fantastic creation. The backgrounds papers you used are just perfect.
Beautiful! For some reason, I've never thought to use browns for this type of card, but it's lovely! I think your huffed and puffed tree looks great! I agree that it does take a bit of practice to get the marker ink applied evenly, but it's so nice to have more than one color on a stamp!
Love the thought process of your neighbor! We have an older gentleman at church who when asked how he's doing always responds, "Well, I woke up on this side of the dirt, so I guess I'm doin' ok!" Hope I can manage that outlook when I'm 'older'!

This is a lovely card Lynn. Sympathy cards are the hardest for me to make because the circumstances you need them for is never a happy one. But it's part of the life cycle, I guess. This is such a great image for a sympathy card and the colours are just right... muted is much better than vivid.

This is really very beautiful Lynn! Very elegant. The image is great. I don't have much luck with the huff-puff method-I think I'm too slow at the inking - can't be that I'm short winded - cuz I can talk up a storm at the drop of a hat. You've inspired me to revisit to huff-puff technique!
