Homework

This was a "homework" assignment from the Pattern Play class that I took last week.  Pretty much like what happened when I was in school and was late with my homework!  Sigh!  I finally decided to buckle down and see if I could manipulate some of the pattern pieces like they showed on one of the videos.

This turned out to be a CASE of one that was on the video but figured that was ok since I didn't know what I was doing.  I changed the patterned paper, embossing, and image - but otherwise it's close to the same.  I used some patterned paper from DCWV called Linen Closet.  It's gorgeous paper (some with glitter on it too) but I had absolutely no card stock to match it.  I didn't realize this though until I got all the strips of paper cut out!!!  Figures!  Anyway, I put all the pieces together and this is what came out - not perfect, but at least I got all the strips on the card.

I picked this SU image to use and then added the "welcome, little one" and got to thinking......this is pretty tacky putting a HIPPO on a baby card!!  I mean, I sure wouldn't want some brand new mother or dad to think that I thought their baby was as big as a Hippo!  LOL!  I think maybe I need to change that sentiment to Happy Birthday or something!

Thanks for stopping by..........
Lynn

Well you are ahead of me on homework. I haven't even tried this one yet. You did a fabulous job and those papers look like the ultimate baby papers and they go so well with the white swiss dots. I never thought of any parents being insulted when I saw it, but you never know. Have a great day.

Too funny I took the class as well, I just love their classes and the inspiration that everyone provides. I think I have taken almost all the classes at this point , especially the Clean and Simple ones, which I purchased after it was over, but still love the ideas. Your card is amazing and you did a great job with this one! Loving all the textures, can't wait to see more.

These soft blues are perfect with the white and kraft! I think that hippo is probably less apt to insult a baby than an adult!

The paper weaving looks wonderful, and I love the linen closet patterns! A baby hippo is fine for a baby - look how many baby cards have elephants and giraffes on them :) It's a super cute card!

Oh, this is great, Lynn! Don't you just love the Linen Closet papers? I think they're my favorites of all time. The hippo is fine on a baby card -- after all, we use giraffes all the time and that doesn't mean a baby has a long neck. LOL
Fabulous job on the design of the papers, too.

This is a fabulous baby card - don't change a thing. At least you're doing your homework - I haven't even watched the videos yet.

I think the baby hippo is perfect! If you're worried that the recipient is going to translate it to themselves MUCH better that it not be a birthday card ;P
I like the combo of patterns you've used - very 'quilty' and perfect for a baby card!

This is adorable! Loved the paper quilting & this DCWV paper was beautiful in this technique (got this pack, must remember your card). I thought your hippo was a sweet image for a baby card..perky & cute. Your ef was a perfect compliment to the quilted squares. Would love to see this how-to video! TFS

Well I think that little hippo is sweet! And the patterned paper and how you've pieced it together is wonderful. It really adds interest and dimension to the card. That is one of my favorite paper packs too, such pretty colors and shine on the papers. I really like this card Lynn!

I love how you used the paper! A great way to mix patterns! I hope no one finds your sweet hippo offensive because I used the same image on a little one's first birthday card not too long ago! I think it's cute enough to pass as a stuffed animal...
