Wanted: Someone Special

A fun card for someone special here at the Back Forty.  Guess this will probably have to go to Jim since they resemble each other - and he really is a special someone in my life.  Don't know if he'll agree with the resemblance though!

This is one of those - where was your freaking mind? - cards!  I stamped the image, from Crackerbox Palace, and then colored the bandana and hat band in blue.  All's good.......after getting it completed though I decided it needed to be red instead.  Stamped and colored again and paper pieced the bandana and the cut out the hat and popped it up over the one with the blue on it.  Instant dimension!  All's good once again.

Ok, let's make it look like a wanted poster.  YIKES!  Don't ever try what I did in the house!  I decided to burn around the edges for that rustic feel.  Got out the matches and fired up.  When you do that you're not only going to have burning paper everywhere but also a stench that will knock your socks off!  It was too windy to attempt this all outside so just carried on and then started spraying Fabreze everywhere!  Gives it a different look anyway.

Oh, the image was stamped on some vanilla Neenah card stock and then added the Paper Studio wood looking paper.  I sponged around the image and base card with Antique Linen.  The sentiment is from Paper Smooches and I added a tiny red heart and the twine.

I'll enter this in the Anything Goes challenge at Simon Says Stamp.

Thanks for stopping by.........and have a great weekend!

Lynn

Ha! I have done the burned edges thing too. I hate when it flairs and you start blowing sparks to try and put it out! It looks fantastic, Lynn, and it made the best wanted poster. It was worth the foo-foo spray!

Oh gosh, Lynn, this is awesome and so much fun. It really is a fab masculine card. Your paper looks like real wood. Your hubby is sure to get a kick out of this one. It really is sweet as well as manly. And, I know he doesn't look like this. Ha

I meant to say I'm glad you didn't burn down your house. The burning really looks great, though.

Love this! Such a fun card Lynn and perfect for the guys in my family too! :) That "burn" technique you've done around the image looks amazing...too bad for the things you had to go through to get there though! LOL!!

Great card and happy weekend! :)

This is so fun! Love that image (and your story!) It definitely looks like a realistic wanted poster.

I see the resemblance to Jim. Just kidding I don't even know what Jim looks like, but I think he must look happier than this "wanted" cowboy. Fantastic paper and I love the burn treatment. I know how messy it is because way back when before I knew you could sponge the edges of things, that is all I used to do- burn edging of everything. We have come so far haven't we? Hope you are having a great day.

OMGoodness, Lynn, I always get a chuckle here! I have not attempted the burnt edges look, just for this very reason. I know, for me, whatever could go wrong, would, but I'd probably burn the whole house down! So I'm glad it didn't get too out of hand! I love your card and the burnt edges do have an awesome look so it was worth the trouble! And I love your wood-grain paper!

Super image and love the dimension Lynn..those woodgrain papers are the best. I burned around the edges of a map for one of my cards and all the fire alarms started going off and I blew the flame and embers went into my scrap box on the floor..panic set in and never did it again..lol..the edges here look fantastic..

Oh this is so cute. It reminds me of my hero, Marshall Matt Dillon too. Enjoyed reading all the adventures you had in the creation, and I think Mr. Jim will adore this card. Loved the burned edges too. Glad you didn't set off any smoke detectors. Now I have never thought of that! But it's quite effective - great look of those old wanted posters, and perfect for your area of the country. Good for you on such a cute and interesting and well done card for Mr. Special! TFS & Happy wkend.

This is so much fun, and I love the singed edges on the wood planked paper! It really does look like a wanted paper, and I love the whole fun idea of this card! Genius!

This is such a cute and fun card! Very creative too. I like the look of the wood...but I don't know if I would have the courage to try it, I would probably end up having the fire company here...Yikes.

I love your Wanted Poster card!! It is so stinkin' cute! When I used to do decopauge I would burn the paper in the sink and this way it didn't fly all over the place and I could leave the water running to put out any potential campfires!!

I love this card Lynn! But you had me giggling at redoing the bandanna and then burning around the edges. lol I love the dimension you gave this image by popping up the hat. I would have burned around the image too if I had been making a wanted poster. Back in the 70's we used to burn around things like this and then glue it down onto wood with Moge Poge, so I know of this smell you talk about. lol But it was well worth it because this card is fabulous!! Hugs, Brenda

This is fantastic, Lynn!! Love your story about the burned edges (they really make this card.) The only time I tried that, I used my old wood burning tool but it didn't work very well. However, I don't remember there being any particular 'stench' from the burned paper. :-D Wonderful wood background!

Hi Lynn,
I remember for one of Zeenya's book projects, I burnt the edges of the book to make it look old and tatty and remember the smell it left behind. Lol.
Your card has so much character and the background paper is AWESOMELY real looking.

Love,
M

I looove that image, Lynn...reminds me of my Hubs!!!! I burned an image up once trying to distress the edges...didn't do that again...LOL!!!!

Marilyn said...

hahahahha... oh man, the trials of being an artist. I don't know which is funnier... your description or knowing I've done something similar. However, mine involved a little bit of batting out a couple of wee bits of fire and there was some sort of dance which went along with it. Sound effects are a must.
Your card... I think this is a fabulous card and it looks very masculine and rough and tumble... like he 'dares' anyone to say he's got a face like a badger hole. Fun card!
