Shooting the Bird

Happy Funny Friday!!!

Dove season ended around here several weeks ago...the hunters get a little wacky during that time and you wake up every morning to the sound of shotguns going off all around you (one of the "nice" things about living in the country)!  This was pretty much a shock to me the first time and you WILL wake up in a hurry!  Anyway, right after we moved out here, Jim decided I'd go dove hunting with him.  The deal is that you shoot them in the air as they're flying by - and this is not an easy thing to do since they're flying at super sonic speed to get away.  After he shot one, he told me to go retrieve it (do I look like a hunting dog or what!!!!) which I did.  I picked it up with two fingers, extended it about as far away from my body as I could, and brought it back to him.  Then he told me I had to "clean" it (not pretty),  but I figure the "retriever" is only required to do so much.  The next year, he bought me a shotgun, told me how to aim at the dove, and shoot.  This was just not going to happen with me but I accidentally shot one and immediately wanted to bury it and say a prayer or two!!!  I'm just NOT a dove hunter at all I don't guess.  One thing they don't have a season on around these parts are buzzards/vultures though.  Thank goodness!!!

Anyway, I was checking blogs the other day and on Leslie's The Crooked Stamper blog she'd made a card using this same stamp and sentiment. I not only loved her card, but also the stamp!  SO, I immediately HAD to have it.  It's from Art Impressions - What's not to love!!!!!

And before you even ask....no, the feather is not from a real bird.  It came in the mail several weeks ago on a dream catcher and they were trying to get you to donate to something and you got the dream catcher free.    I started plucking all the feathers off the thing and Jim thought I'd lost my mind.....he just doesn't "get" all this creative stuff!  LOL!  The clouds were made using stamped off black ink and I added a bit of liquid applique around his neck.  He was stamped and colored, cut out, and then popped up.

Thanks for stopping by............and have a great weekend!
Lynn

He's not a super pretty bird is he? But you did do a fabulous job with him. Love the feather. You are a great wife and I hope Jim knows that because I wouldn't have had enough nerve to even pick up the dead bird.

Oh, I do hope this card is for your great hunter! Too funny and your story has made my day! I was taken pheasant hunting many years ago with much the same results as you had with doves. One trip was enough. :-D

Hilarious card Lynn, so funny! That sentiment is so droll and such dry humour that it just cracks me up.
I like your hunting story and I have a similar one. The hubs took me gopher hunting once and it was so upsetting for me after I'd hit one that I have never touched a gun since.

This is a fabulous card and stamp. I know why you had to have it - it may be coming here too. Love that sentiment with it and the feathers (I do the same thing-probably from the same organization)

I'm with you Lynn - I will never understand why people think it's fun to kill things. Your card made me chuckle - sometimes I feel exactly how your 'bluebird of happiness' looks!

I am sitting here laughing Lynn, thinking of you picking the feathers off of the dream catcher and Jim watching thinking you had lost the plot lol, fabulous card I love the image and of course that feather.

I don't know which is funnier - your story or your card! LOL I'd never retrieve any bird if my husband shot it! You wanna shoot birds, you fetch and clean it yourself!! I live in a DIY world :)
Great card Lynn, that really is a great image, and the feather is the perfect embellishment!

Your post made me laugh yet again... I can empathize with you about shooting birds.
This card is swell and the bird is so well coloured. Love the feather and the story behind it. Only a crafter would understand.
Love,

Oh my gosh! This is so funny! Yes, we get deer hunters, we NEED deer hunters or the population would just explode but sometimes they get too close to my house. I have to open my door and yell "Move Off" to let them know our little house is there and not to shoot us! I have never hunted! You are brave!

Hugs,
Chriss

haha! I love that card-so funny and cute. I laughed at your story too. There is no WAY anyone would get me out to hunt or worse yet, to touch a dead animal. ugh.

Thanks for the chuckle- just read your bird hunting escapades to Ray, and he also got quite the chuckle- he grew up on a farm, so is with your hubby when it comes to shooting birds. Love your blue bird (hehehe) and the great feather and the great clouds!

Your card (and the story accompanying it) are hilarious! Love that beautiful blue bird and :) My husband quit hunting about 10 years ago, but this year my son decided he wanted to go out. I'm hoping he decides it's not for him - very unlikely though.

This is totally my kind of card :)
And as for the story...snicker....my 12 year old thinks he wants to go hunting. We think he's delusional ;)

Gorgeous colouring Lynn (have I been spelling your name wrong? I am so sorry.) I think the feather is a brilliant touch. X

I'm sorry I didn't get by on Friday. But I can get a good laugh on Monday just as well. I had the same experience with dove hunting with my hubby the first year we were married. He wanted me to flush them out by walking down the other side of the field to flush them out. I came across a black snake and he accused me of scaring off all the birds within several miles. He never asked me to go again. So sad. (NOT) Anyhoo, this card is going to bring a big grin on someone's face!

LOL! These posts really need to come with a warning!! We went through a similar situation the first year we moved back out in the country. My brother was rabbit hunting on the family farm and I think my head nearly hit the ceiling on the first shot! Fortunately, my DH is not a hunter so I haven't been asked to 'retrieve' anything!!
LOVE your cheeky card and the feather is the perfect embellishment! Can't believe Jim didn't understand this ;)

I'd seen this AI stamp, and almost got it. If I'd seen your card first, I'd have been a goner! (as it was, I managed to resist). This is a wonderful card, so funny. Loved your story. You made a better retriever than I, doubt I could have touched it at all. Forget about cleaning it! Really like this one, and your embossed background, dark clouds...just perfect! :-) TFS
