That Time of Year

It's almost here........and I'm not talking about Christmas either (although that's going to be here before we know it)!  Actually, it's that time of year around these parts when all the males get a little wacky (wackier), haul out the guns, ammo, and camouflage ....and hit the brush!  Yep, it's getting close to deer season!  Poor little deer!!!

I bought this Stampabilities stamp with just a masculine card or two in mind.  After I started looking at it yesterday it reminded me of all the mounted deer heads in guys houses and at Christmas they hang ornaments and tinsel all over them!  Uck, right!!!!  No, we don't have one in our house.  Thankfully, Jim gave his to his son!  Can you just image looking a beautiful animal like this staring at you all day long!  Yikes!  I didn't add the ornaments and tinsel, but did add some holly sprigs (MS punch) under him and added a couple of tiny red circles for the berries. The DP behind the deer was from one of the SSS kits (speckles and all) and the strip of paper from Basic Grey.

A very quick card that will be sent to one of our deer hunting friends at Christmas.

I'll enter this in the challenge at Pixie's Crafty Workshop (snippets).

Thanks for stopping by.........
Lynn

What a gorgeous rendering of a deer. I don't think I would be able to live with that deer staring at me all day. I love them too much for that. The springs and ornaments you added look very nice on him. A very nice card and I'm sure your hunter friend will love and appreciate it. A winner,Lynn.

Poor little deer indeed :( At least this one is safe on your beautiful card Lynn-he looks fabulous with the added greenery-and i'm with you-I would always want to see these beautiful creatures wild and free-they should never be hung on walls :(
Have a lovely day,Nessa xxx

Wow Lynn, this is really nice. I love that striped border and the sprigs and berries are the perfect and 'just right' embellishment. Such a great guy card.

Hello Lynn,
Glad that you gave away that mounted deer away...
This card is very striking with the greenery at the bottom. I like the soft look of this deer. And the paper is awesome. Such a striking card.
Hope you are keeping well.
Love,
M

The layout of this card is great with the full-length image piece. I also love how you placed the leaf punches.

Hubby use to indulge in this sport, but he gave it up. Never had the mounted deer head, but we had a 40 lb. raccoon on an log hanging on our wall. It is now in a state park office. Love the way you Christmas'ed up Mr. buck!

Lynn, love your deer (Stampin Up has one similar to this I think! Didn't know Stampabilities had one so will be on the lookout for this). I agree with you on the deer heads..I don't like looking at poor dead animals' heads. Never have seen this as a sport either...different if it's for food. You did a great job on this card, it's lovely. Thanks for the blogger encouragement. I'm afraid to change anything for fear of messing up something else! Starting the gmail thing-y seemed a good idea at the time...now just wish I'd left well enough alone!!! Have a great afternoon. Hugs

I like that you decorated this deer so tastefully and didn't hang tinsel and such from his antlers! It's a perfect Christmas card for a deer hunter!

You're so smart to only put deer images on paper and not on the walls! I just love those ferns you grounded him with! What a classic and beautiful card!

I love how you've dressed your deer, Lynn! Now I can picture him alive standing in a growth of pine and not just a dead head. Genius layout! Great job on the snippets, too! I'll see you by the Playground gate. I'm bringing over my Halloween cards and some candy corn! Hugs, Darnell

Your deer card is a wonderful masculine looking card. The paper the image is stamped on reminds me of canvas...great look for this!

How beautiful is this! I love the garland you added- and the perfect DP. My BIL has one hanging in his family room- and when my kids first saw it, they ran to the adjoining room looking for the other...side of the deer.....! It was so funny.....!

Beautiful card Lynn with the stately buck! I love the side treatment with him and the little greenery :) Males and their hunting trips are sorta like us and our paper fetish :)

This is a beautiful card! And I agree about the mounted heads. Yuck.... their eyes always seem to follow you around the room.

I wonder if it would be like one of those creepy portraits where it seems like the eyes follow you everywhere?? I must say I wouldn't want a deer hanging on my wall...but if I had one, I'd probably hang tinsel on it to try to make it look even stranger ;) My husband has a big poster that I'm not fond of & I stuck 1" googly eyes on it.
All that said, this card is perfection! I love how you left the deer uncoloured :)

Gorgeous stamp, Lynn! Loving that paper and you really did a great job with the holly and berries. I'm afraid my dad was one of those fall hunters but he grew up in a family where if they didn't hunt, the family had no meat throughout the winter. Pretty tough when you have 15 people to feed for 4 or 5 snowy months. :-D Since he was a hunter, I learned to love elk and venison. But he never had a deer head hanging on the wall !

This is just wonderful. Love the little extra embellishment beneath the tag. Just right!

What a beautiful image, so regal. I like the sprigs of punched greenery and little red berries that you added, it's just right.
I'm with you on the decorated heads for Christmas - Ewww. Must be a guy thing!

A perfect guy card! love the greenery and how you left him uncolored! I prefer my deer roasted or in sausages as opposed to mounted on a wall and tackied up with tinsel....even better just on a card! :)

Brilliant! I love that you've managed another use for this wonderful deer image! Your card looks fantastic!

A lot of my friends are preparing to be hunting widows for a few months too! My DH doesn't hunt so I don't have to concern myself with decorating the deer head for the holidays! :)
