Don't Forget the Toilet Paper!

Is everyone ready for a smile for today?  Just don't forget the TP - or newspaper - or heck, just forget about the whole thing and drip dry!

This is one of my favorite stamps from Impression Obsession - and yes, it brings back memories too.  No, I didn't grow up using an outhouse.  That was a little (not much) before my time I guess, but I have used one before and it wasn't a pleasant experience at all.......One of my boyfriends (back in the day) and I went to visit his grandmother out on their farm.  She had an outhouse and when you have to go you have to go you know.  So, very nicely I asked where the bathroom was and was directed to the outhouse.  Eek!  I swear she even had an old Sears catalog in there too!

I sorta colored this with watercolors - very lightly -  mounted it on black cardstock, added an embossed sentiment strip from Taylored Expressions, and then last but not least ---- went digging around for something to put in that top corner and found this spiral from Close To My Heart that's probably 15 years old.  It worked!

I also found a new challenge called FarmQuest General Store - Anything Goes,  This will be a really fun challenge for me since I usually love all that country type stuff.  No frills here you know (except for maybe a real bathroom)!

Thanks for stopping by...........and keep smiling!

Lynn

What a fun card Lynn, it reminds me of visiting my hubby’s grandparents when we first got married. They had one in their garden, which fortunately I didn’t ever need to use. Our small daughter however asked to go numerous times during every visit, she loved using it! 🤣

A cute card that some people might not understand! Unfortunately, I do but we didn't have one either, only grandparents. The flowers on the barrel aren't going to mask anything though. This card did make me smile. I also remember the Sears catalog.

Oh my gosh, does this bring back some memories! LOL When I was just out of high school, I traveled to VA with my then-boyfriend and his parents to visit his Uncle and Aunt who lived on a farm. When I had to go, I was directed to the outhouse too but was shocked to find no toilet paper! When I returned to the house to tell them they were out of paper, his uncle laughed (along with everybody else) and asked me if I thought the Sears catalog was out there to read? LOL How we learn, eh? Thanks for that hilarious and embarrassing memory with this fun little card! Oh the joys of yesteryear! LOL This is a great card, and I love that little metal ring accent you added. I still have a ton of those in my stash!

Such a cute card. Yes, I had to use one of those...
My family went up north from where we lived..to spend some time in a cabin in the woods...It was NOT one of my favorite vacations.

This is so cute! I remember when I was young using an old wooden out house. It was not pleasant. I love this one, though. I'm sure it would smell like pretty flowers!

This note certainly does make me smile, Lynn! I have had to use an outhouse too. It makes you really appreciate indoor plumbing!

Thanks, Lynn for discovering FarmQuest General Store. There is also FarmQuest Challenge Blog with themes 2 per month on the 14th and 28th that you might want to check out. This is so reminiscent of small rural towns and farm living from mid-1970s and earlier in the USA or at least for early years. I had a classmate who grew up in my town about 4-5 blocks away that didn't have an indoor toilet until we were about 13, about 1975. They were one of the last folks in our area to go that long. A few park shelters and campgrounds have had primitive 'privies', too, and would be a simple reminder to feel blessed to have indoor plumbing. Your watercolor skills and keeping everything neutral evoke that country feeling. Terrific note card! --Becca/owner

Here Down Under they are known as 'long drops' - for obvious reasons.. and they were not the most pleasant experience, especially on a hot day!! We did not live with one, but they were still around during my childhood.
The one on your card looks so nice and clean and 'sweet smelling' Lynn

I do remember the the old moon house. Used them more than once. Not pleasant at all. I lived with my grandmother for awhile. Love the coloring on this image. It brought a smile even with the memory of that awful smell. Smile.

Lynn, your watercoloring of this fab image is wonderful. Your story is fun too. I have used a few as well and not fond of it. My daughter stays in some adventurous places like Yurts and glass houses with them and actually pays money (you would have to pay me to do it - lol). So nice to be visiting you. Hope you are well. Those good ole days with the outhouses! LOL That's a really cool image with lots of detail in it! Always fun to dig through to find something that works with your design too! Glad you found it to use as if it was waiting for the perfect time! Such a cute card!

Only you could make an outhouse beautiful, Lynn! Your watercolor is perfect and you've classed up the joint with that bouquet and barrel. I still have some of those spiral doodads here; fun to see someone actually use one effectively on a card!

As for using outhouses, I have had that icky experience many times. One of my childhood friends in my small town in Iowa lived on a place that only had an outhouse and I would have sleepovers there. Then years later, The Mister and I camped in out-of-the-way locations that only provided "one-holers," as we called them back in the day. Memories! (Frankly, I never understood the "two-holers." I mean, really? Can't you just imagine: "Hi, been at this campsite long?" Eeeeuw!) Hugs, Darnell

Hello, Lynn! First of all, thank you so much for all of your sweet comments on my blog! Second of all, your card is gorgeous, love your colouring, and it brings back memories for me! My grandparents had an outhouse for many years before they had an indoor bathroom installed, and if we were staying overnight, there were chamber pails under the bed! Yikes! Several years ago I had to use an outhouse at a historic museum and nearly got locked in there - I couldn't get the handle to open - it was the stuff nightmares are made of - luckily my friend came back to check on me! We also have outhouses at a public park/walking trail in a nearby town, but they are super clean and well stocked with TP. Awesome card and I'm sure it will get a smile from the recipient! Maybe they have some outhouse memories too!

Oh how fun (now that we have indoor plumbing!) and nostalgic!
Dad would tell us about using corn cobs for #2. Apparently there were two different kinds. The softer of the two were for finishing-ouch!

Haha! Oh boy, this does bring back memories for me! I love this card Lynn, and I remember the outhouse well. Not my favorite place to "go", but it will do in a pinch. I much prefer the modern conveniences. LOL Love the way you watercolored this, love the image.....am surprised you have an image like this. LO Used the outhouse a lot down in SC, my aunt and uncle had one and my grandmother had one. Went to see my grandmother, which was up the dirt road from my aunt and uncle. I was 2 years old, got there and had to "go". So went to the outhouse only there was a big ole snake in there. Went and got my cousin and asked if he could get the snake out of the outhouse so I could "go". Use them went we went to the cabin in VA as that cabin didn't have a bathroom, just an outhouse. My girlfriends cousin's had one as well you had to use when visiting. Oh yes, I used my fair share of outhouses. Hope I don't have to use them anymore! LOL Great card, it sure did put a smile on my face! Hugs, Brenda
